GREENVILLE, N.C. – No. 9 East Carolina plays host to Old Dominion Tuesday evening at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. and the contest will stream live via ESPN+. Scooter Rogers and Dr. Gary Overton will have the radio call on 94.3 The Game.

The Pirates (24-8) put together a 4-0 showing last week, knocking off NC State Tuesday before sweeping American Athletic Conference opponent UCF over Easter Weekend. ECU currently sits in a three-way tie for first place in the AAC standings with South Florida and Houston in advance of a home series with Cincinnati this weekend. East Carolina also boasts the top RPI in the league at 15.

Justin Wilcoxen, who provided the game-winning RBI single in the 12th inning of Friday's series finale victory over the Knights, extended his current hitting streak to 15 games and leads the club in batting average (.351) as one of six Pirates who are batting .301 or better. Collectively, ECU is hitting .299 with 65 doubles, eight triples and 38 home runs as well as 158 walks and 42 stolen bases. On the national scale, the Pirates check in at 34th in hits (329), 52nd in batting average, 53rd in both runs scored (243) and doubles (65) and 54th in on base percentage (.402).

The East Carolina pitching staff has done its job as well, putting together a team earned run average of 3.63 with 331 strikeouts against just 103 walks in 285.1 innings of work. The Pirates rank 15th nationally in ERA as well as sixth in strikeout to walk ration (3.21), 11th in WHIP (1.22), 20th in hits allowed per nine innings (7.70) and 25th in strikeouts per nine innings (10.4).

ECU enters Tuesday's affair with an impressive 20-2 home record with its only losses occurring at the hands of Long Beach State and UNCW.

Old Dominion (23-8) lost two of three at home to Sun Belt Conference opponent Southern Miss over the weekend and is 7-3 away from Norfolk this campaign. The Monarchs sport a powerful offense, ranking in the top 10 nationally in slugging percentage and home runs. Hunter Fitz-Gerald has been a force at the plate, sporting a .350 batting average, 48 hits, six doubles, 12 home runs and 42 RBI.

The Old Dominion Series
Old Dominion leads the series with East Carolina 36-31, including a home-and-home season sweep of the Pirates in 2022 though both wins were by one run. ECU seeks its first win over the Monarchs since April 24, 2019 when it captured a 10-7 decision in Norfolk.

Makarewicz Selected AAC Player of the Week
Junior third baseman Alec Makarewicz was tabbed the AAC Player of the Week for the second time in his career April 10 after helping East Carolina to a 4-0 week that included a midweek win over NC State and a series sweep over league foe UCF. He hit .562 (9-for-16) with six runs scored, eight RBI, two doubles and a triple while posting a 1.391 OPS. In the series opener, Makarewicz recorded his second career four-hit effort with two runs scored and four RBI. He continued his sizzling performance in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple and two RBI.

Yesavage Tabbed To Midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List
Sophomore RHP Trey Yesavage is one of 45 players nationally to earn a spot on the midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list. He is the sixth Pirate in program history to be named to the midseason list following Jeff Hoffman (2013), Evan Kruczynski (2016), Chris Holba (2018), Jake Agnos (2019) and Connor Norby (2021). ECU has had four players named to the preseason watch list in Kyle Roller (2010), Jeff Hoffman (2014), Bryant Packard (2019) and Alec Burleson (2020), while Corey Kemp is the lone Pirate to be named a semifinalist in 2008.
