Last Time Out
The Pirates bounced back with a gutty win over SMU on Saturday. Danae McNeal scored a career-high 35 points, including 17 points in the fourth quarter alone, to propel the team past the Mustangs late. The guard hit a program record 15-15 from the foul line as she proved to be simply unstoppable on the day. It was a much needed win for the Pirates to get some momentum going into their Florida swing.
Scouting Rice
The Owls are looking for a change as they enter Thursday on a seven-game skid, still finding themselves winless in American Conference play, including a 76-56 beating at the hands of Memphis last time out. Despite their record, Aniya Hubbard has been stellar, scoring over 17 points per contest with five boards and a nearly 50-percent clip from the field to lead the Owls.
Series History
The Pirates and Owls have met only three times in their histories, two of which have been at neutral sites and never in Boca. The Pirates own a 3-0 record against Florida Atlantic with the last meeting coming on Minges in Jan. 2014. Jada Payne led ECU in scoring while Abria Trice put up a double-double in what was the only meeting of the two schools as members of CUSA before the Pirates left for the American.
History in the Making
Danae McNeal had one for the ages in her last game. Not only were her 35 points equal to the 10th most scored in a game in program history and her 15-15 clip from the strip a program record for free throws made in a game without a miss, she also became the 25th player to score 1,000 points in an ECU uniform. McNeal has now scored 1,022 points as a Pirate, 24th in program history. The game was also her third 30-point game of the season, and the fifth of her career, tied for fourth most in program history (Jennifer Jackson, Sheilah Cotten, Kathy Riley).
