Marlins Hire Former Pirate Clayton McCullough As 17th Manager In Club History

MIAMI, Fla. – Clayton McCullough, who played baseball at East Carolina from 2000-02, has been hired as the 17th manager in Miami Marlins club history according to an announcement by the organization Monday afternoon.

McCullough heads to the Sunshine State off a 10-year stint with the 2024 World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers, serving the last four seasons as the team's first-base coach. He was also part of the 2021 National League All-Star coaching staff. McCullough worked with current NL MVP favorite Shohei Ohtani and even threw to him in the 2023 Home Run Derby.

Before joining the Dodgers franchise, McCullough managed seven seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays organization and led several of its minor league clubs to six winning seasons. He was tabbed the Northwest League Manager of the Year in 2012 and Florida State League Manager of the Year in 2011.

McCullough competed under legendary Pirate head coach Keith LeClair, helping ECU rack up 136 victories, two Colonial Athletic Association regular season championships (2000-01), a CAA tournament title (2000) and a Conference USA tournament crown (2002) as well as the 2001 NCAA Wilson Regional championship. That 2001 squad hosted Tennessee in the Kinston Super Regional. McCullough was tabbed to the 2001 and 2002 NCAA All-Regional Teams while also earning 2001 All-CAA Second Team accolades.
