Fort Worth, Texas – The East Carolina men's basketball team is set to compete in the American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship as the eighth-seeded Pirates will clash with ninth-seed Tulsa in the second round on Thursday, March 14 at 12:30 p.m. ET inside Dickies Arena.Â
The game will be televised on ESPNU with Mike Corey (play-by-play) and Perry Clark (analyst) on the call. Thursday's game can also be heard on WNCT 107.9 FM with Kyle Youmans (play-by-play) and Michael Perry (analyst) handling broadcasting duties.
All-Conference Third Team member RJ Felton leads East Carolina with 17.3 points per game (6th in AAC) and has scored 10 or more points in 23 consecutive games while Brandon Johnson and Ezra Ausar round out the Pirates' top scorers with 14 and 10.7 points per game respectively. Johnson leads the team on the glass with 8.4 rebounds per contest which is third in the league, is fourth in the AAC in double-doubles this season with nine and leads all active players in the AAC in career double-doubles with 21. Bobby Pettiford Jr. leads the Pirates with 3.5 assists per game and is first in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.24 (13th in NCAA).

RJ Felton scored a game-high 28 points but East Carolina's senior day was spoiled as Charlotte defeated the Pirates 82-72 at Williams Arena in Minges Coliseum on Saturday evening. Brandon Johnson added 19 points and six rebounds for the Pirates (14-17, 7-11 AAC) who dropped their fifth straight game with the loss. Cam Hayes added 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting from behind the arc.
Scouting the Golden Hurricane
Tulsa is coming off of a massive 76-70 upset of No. 24 South Florida at home, led by PJ Haggerty's career-high 32 points and Cobe Williams' 23 points. It was the first win over a ranked team for Tulsa since Dec. 29, 2020. Haggerty leads Tulsa in scoring with 20.9 points per game (2nd in AAC) and Williams adds 13.2 points to go along with Keaston Willis' 12.5 points. The Golden Hurricane are a strong defensive rebounding team, ranking third in the league with 26.7 per game.
