Pirates Kick Off Outdoor Season at High Point
March 21, 2024 | Track & Field
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina track & field team is set to kick off the outdoor season at High Point's Bob Davidson Team Challenge on Friday and Saturday.
Â
The Pirates will be looking to build on an indoor season which showed abundant signs of promise. At the American Indoor Championships, the sprints group headed by Melicia Mouzzon and Royal Burris looked phenomenal while Naadiya Faison continued to do her thing with another All-Conference performance in the throws. Terence Booth, Jr. and Sydni McMillan also wrapped up phenomenal indoor seasons with a pair of 60m hurdles silver medals and will look to build on that heading into outdoor.
Â
The team combined indoors to post 32 marks in the program's all-time top 10 list across men's and women's as well as three program records: Burris' 300m record and Mouzzon's 60m and 200m records.

"Both teams are extremely excited to kick off the outdoor season this weekend at High Point," said Director of Track & Field Curt Kraft. "It's been nice to have a good break between the indoor season and the outdoor season. The rest was very well needed. This rest gave both teams an opportunity to get physically and mentally prepared for a long outdoor season. We are carrying a lot of momentum and excitement into the outdoor season. Starting with this weekend, every opportunity is so crucial, because we have so few of them."
