GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team will play a 17-game schedule which includes 10 regular season home matches during their fall 2024 campaign, head coach Gary Higgins announced Tuesday. The Pirates home games are held in Johnson Stadium and a free to attend.
Â
"We are very excited for our 2024 season," said Higgins. "As always, we have some tough out of conference games on our schedule this year as well as a challenging American Athletic Conference slate. Our conference continues to be one of the most competitive in the country and we are excited to compete for our first ever AAC Championship.
Â
"After a heavy away schedule in 2023, we are looking forward to being back in Johnson Stadium for ten games in the fall. We look forward to Pirate Nation coming out to support us, as well as our beloved Scallywags. See you all in August and Go Pirates!"
Â
The Pirates will first begin with a pair of exhibition matches with showcases against Liberty in Greenville and on the road with Elon. The Liberty match will be on Wednesday, Aug 7 and is open to fans.
Â
The team kicks of the regular season with a big-time matchup at NC State on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. The game will be the first against the Wolfpack since 2019 and the first in Raleigh since the Pirates earned a 1-1 draw against then No. 16 NC State back in 2018.
Â
ECU gets rolling in the comfy confines of Johnson Stadium with a three-game home stand against UNC Greensboro, Campbell and Coastal Carolina on Aug. 22, 25 and 29 before finally hitting the road again with the turn of the month of September. That match, a Sept. 1 tilt at UNCW will lead into another home game with Western Carolina (Sept. 8) a week later.
Â
Mid-September means the beginning of American Athletic Conference play and a trip to Temple on Sept. 12.
Â
James Madison comes to town on Sept. 15 for a brief pause in league action before the team welcomes UTSA (Sept. 19) to Greenville. A trip to Charlotte (Sept. 26) leads into the final home contest of the month on Sept. 29 when North Texas comes to town.
Â
The month of October features a trio of road trips and a trio of home matches, first with a trip to Tulsa on the third then a battle with South Florida (Oct. 10) at home. The Pirates defeated South Florida in Tampa for the first time a season ago.
Â
On Oct. 13, the Pirates will take a trip west to perennial power Memphis before hosting UAB (Oct. 20) for a Sunday matinee. After that it's one more road trip to Florida Atlantic (Oct. 27) before the program gets to honor its senior class on Halloween night, Oct. 31, when the Rice Owls come to Johnson Stadium.
Â
The American Athletic Conference Tournament will be held on Nov. 5-10.
