April 26, 2024 | Baseball
The Pirates (33-8, 12-4 AAC) won their sixth-straight game while improving to 11-6 on the road this season and 4-3 in league away contests. The Tigers fell to 18-24 overall and 6-10 in AAC play.
Yesavage (9-1) notched 12 strikeouts over 6.2 innings, marking his seventh double-digit strikeout effort of the campaign. David Warren (4-3) suffered the loss for the home side as ECU touched him up for seven runs on seven hits in just three innings of work.
Carter Cunningham and Jacob Jenkins-Cowart both finished the night with three hits while combining for four runs scored, eight RBI, a pair of doubles and two home runs. Daunte Stuart logged the lone base knock for Memphis.

After both starting pitchers tossed clean first frames, the Pirates ratcheted up the offense in the top of the second. Jacob Starling continued his solid week with a leadoff homer to left field before Dixon Williams singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch with one away. Justin Wilcoxen then connected on a 2-2 offering and singled to left, plating Williams in the process to make it a 2-0 contest. Bristol Carter reached base shortly after as he was hit by a pitch to bring up Joey Berini who roped a sharp single to left center that scored Wilcoxen. Ryley Johnson then stepped up and laced a ball into the right center gap for a two-run double and 5-0 East Carolina advantage. Cunningham and Jenkins-Cowart capped the inning with a run-scoring double and RBI single respectively to leave the Pirates ahead 7-0.
ECU added on in the top of the fourth thanks to a Cunningham two-run blast over the left field wall and a Tiger throwing error on a double steal attempt that saw Jenkins-Cowart take third and score on the miscue. The senior duo came through again the top of the seventh with two outs, accounting for a quartet of runs that provided the final margin. Pinch hitter Luke Nowak and Wilcoxen both drew walks to set the stage for a Cunningham two-run double and Jenkins-Cowart drilled a two-run homer to the same part of the park that plated pinch runner Cam Clonch in the process.
Stuart would break up the no hitter in the home half of the frame by taking the first pitch he saw through the left side of the infield. Jackson DiLorenzo entered the game from there and ended the evening with a strikeout to strand the bases loaded.

- East Carolina improved to 47-19 all-time against Memphis and won its eighth-straight decision over the Tigers.
- The Pirates scored in double figures for the fourth-straight game and have registered double-digit hits in 10-straight outings.
- ECU ran its record to 13-2 when hitting two or more home runs in a contest.
- Johnson extended his on base streak to 39 games and his hitting streak to 14 games.
- The Pirates were a sizzling 7-for-11 (.636) with runners in scoring position and tallied six extra-base hits.
