Pirates Set to Host 10th Annual Bill Carson Invitational
April 03, 2024 | Track & Field
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina track & field program is set to host the 10th annual Bill Carson Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Bate Foundation Track & Field Facility. Attendance for the meet is free.
The meet kicks of at 10 a.m. on Friday with the women's hammer before things pick up on the track at 12:10 p.m. Saturday with the 4x100m. The Pirates will be holding their annual Senior Day celebration at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Â
There will be three teams coming to Greenville to compete in the meet: N.C. State, UNCW, and Mount Olive.
Â
The Pirates swept the meet a season ago with the men scoring 180 points and the women posting a dominant 280-point victory. The teams picked up 22 event wins, including 14 by individuals who will be in competition again this weekend – plus, Terence Booth, Jr. who won the 110m hurdles in 2023 while competing unattached.
Â
The Pirates enter this week after a successful outing at the Raleigh Relays last time out which say two program records go down along with a pair of event wins and four other marks ranking in the top 10 in program history, including Booth himself with a 14.13-second effort in the 110m hurdles which ranks ninth in program history.
Â
Melicia Mouzzon and Alyssa Zach broke program records in the 200m and 10,000m, respectively. Mouzzon also took the win in the event and was joined by Starrett Vesper in victory as Vesper took the pole vault victory. All three athletes will be back in competition this week, as will Sydni McMillan who will be looking for to climb the final rung after moving into second in ECU history with a 13.33 second 100mH performance.

"Both teams are extremely excited to be competing at home this weekend," said Director of Track & Field Curt Kraft. "This is always a very special time of year for our programs. We are unlike any other program in our athletic department in that we only get to host one home event every year. This opportunity gives all our student athletes a chance to compete in front of the home fans, their professors, and their families. Another thing that makes this weekend very special is that we host our Senior Day on Saturday to honor our 26 senior men and women. This home event also affords us to sleep in her own beds and not have to go through the rigors of traveling to an away meet. Both teams have been competing at a high level for the last two weekends, we hope to keep that momentum and excitement going throughout this weekend."Â
