June 12, 2024 | Baseball
DALLAS, Texas – East Carolina junior RHPs Trey Yesavage and Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman have earned National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-America honors according to an announcement by the organization Wednesday. Yesavage was tabbed to the First Team while Lunsford-Shenkman garnered Second Team laurels.
Â
With the selections, the Pirates have had at least one player collect NCBWA All-America accolades every season since 2017. Yesavage and Lunsford-Shenkman are also the 13th and 14th All-America honorees in head coach Cliff Godwin's 10-year tenure while Yesavage has now posted five All-America citations during his career in the Purple and Gold.
Â
Yesavage produced one of the finest campaigns in program history in 2024 as he was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy. He was also named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Atlantic Region First Team Tuesday. As of the conclusion of the Super Regional round of the NCAA Baseball Championship, Yesavage slots second nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (4.73), third in both earned run average (2.03) and WHIP (0.87), fifth in strikeouts (145) and victories (11) and ninth in strikeouts per nine innings (13.98). He also tied the program single season record for strikeouts, matching Jake Agnos' 145 that he produced in 2019.
Â
Lunsford-Shenkman, also selected a finalist for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award and a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, was named to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team and concluded the campaign with team-best marks in earned run average (1.55) and saves (five) while slotting second on the club in strikeouts (79). Opposing batters hit just .218 off him and he registered at least five strikeouts in seven outings – including a career-high eight in four scoreless innings versus Charlotte on April 13. Lunsford-Shenkman also earned ABCA All-Atlantic Region Second Team recognition Tuesday.
