
Former Pirate Standout Jeff Hoffman Selected To 2024 MLB All Star Game

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Midsummer Classic will feature a former East Carolina player for the first time as Jeff Hoffman, who starred for the Pirates from 2012-14 and currently pitches for the Philadelphia Phillies, earned a spot on the National League Team for the 2024 Major League Baseball All Star Game scheduled for July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

ECU's highest-ever draft pick of the four major American sports, Hoffman was taken ninth overall by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2014 MLB Draft. He was then traded to the Colorado Rockies in 2016 before making his major league debut with the club August 20th of that year. Hoffman also pitched for the Cincinnati Reds from 2020-22 before signing with the Phillies in 2023 after a short stint as a free agent. After posting a 5-2 record and 2.41 earned run average over 54 appearances during the 2023 regular season, Hoffman pitched in eight playoff games as Philadelphia reached the National League Championship Series.

This season, Hoffman owns a 3-1 record and has compiled a sparkling 1.21 earned run average with 47 strikeouts against just eight walks in 37.1 innings of work. He also paces the Phillies with 10 holds while slotting second on the team in saves (eight).
