GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team is set for their home opener against UNC Greensboro on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be free to attend for fans and for those unable, the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Evan Budrovich and Courtney Layton on the call.

The game is also Student Pirate Club Night and free pizza will be given out to the first 100 students in attendance.

Last Time Out
The Pirates downed NC State on the road for the first time in 24 years on Sunday night as Abby Sowa delivered a 38th minute winner. The goal was the fourth of Sowa's career and proved decisive in the 1-0 affair. The Pirates also got a terrific effort from Maeve English in goal as her three second-half saves helped the team to its first shutout of the season and English to her 22nd career solo clean sheet.

Scouting UNC Greensboro
The Spartans enter the game on the heels of a draw with UNCW on Sunday. With their 0-0-1 record, the team will be on the road for the second time this season and hunting their first victory. Taylor Mentzer has the team's lone goal of the season. Mentzer was tied for the team lead with five goals a season ago in 17 games played. Emma Malone returns starting in goal after starting 17 games a season ago and making 51 saves, winning five contests.

Series History
The Pirates and Spartans have a back-and-forth series history with both teams taking four wins in eight games all-time. The series was leveled last season as East Carolina went on the road and earned a 1-0 victory on the foot of Sydney Schnell. Schnell's goal, one of her five from 2023, was assisted by Lucy Fazackerley and came just 11:04 into the contest. The Pirates held serve from there, holding the Spartans scoreless on nine shots.
