Alvarez Earns American Weekly Honors
September 02, 2024 | Soccer
IRVING, Texas - East Carolina soccer's Kylie Alvarez has been tabbed American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The honor, the first of Alvarez' career, comes after the senior not only helped the Pirates to two clean sheets defensively, but scored her first career goal. That goal ended up being the game winner in Sunday's contest at UNCW and was well struck off of a feed from Lindsey Aiken, giving the Seahawk keeper no chance. In addition to her offensive output, Alvarez was excellent defensively from her midfield position, stifling her opponents' offensive chances and helping the team to their third and fourth shutouts of the year.Â
Alvarez, a graduate student by way of Lorton, Va., has started 19 games in 34 appearances in her Pirate career. She had previously only attempted seven shots with a high of six in 2023 but the shot was her first this season and she certainly made the most of it.
Alvarez and the Pirates will be back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. as they host Western Carolina.
