CARY, N.C. - The East Carolina cross country team completed its first meet of 2024 on Friday evening at the Adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State. The Pirate women took eighth and the men finished sixth in the 14-team field.

The men's team was the first to toe the line on the evening for a 6K race, led by J Henry Lyon with a 18:33.8 result good for 30^th place overall. Lyon was followed up by Judah Lacroix making his collegiate debut in 53^rd, Alex Sawyer (62^nd), Zach Willer (70^th) and Elliott Kleckner (71^st). Nick Willer and Cooper Kleckner rounded out the ECU lineup in 96^th and 109^th, respectively.

On the women's side, Erin Pope led the way for their 5K race in her collegiate debut, finishing 30^th in a time of 17:47.6. Kaylee McCullough followed Pope in her Pirate debut in 46^th, followed by Hayley Whoolery (52^nd), Navaya Zales (80^th) and Lily Schlossberg (91^st) to round out the scoring. Katrina Ford (100^th), Ava Elliott (108^th), Bella Wood (114^th) and Madelyn Mead (132^nd) rounded out the ECU lineup.
