GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina returns to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum to continue American Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night when the Pirates welcome North Texas to town.
The game is set for a 7 p.m. start time and will be streamed via ESPN+ with Patrick Johnson (play-by-play) and Si Seymour (analyst) on the call with Matison Little (sideline) reporting from the baselines. Pirate fans can also tune in to 107.9 WNCT, 94.3 The Game or download the IBX app to hear Daron Vaught call the action.
Tuesday night also marks ECU's annual 'Paint It Black' game as fans are encouraged to wear black in support of the Pirates.
The Pirates are led in scoring by All-AAC Preseason First Team guard RJ Felton's 17.5 points per game and the senior adds 7.1 rebounds per game. C.J. Walker supplies secondary scoring with 17.2 ppg and leads the team in rebounding with 7.4 per game while Jordan Riley averages 13.9 ppg and 5.8 rpg to round out ECU's double figure scorers.Â
Last Time Out
C.J. Walker scored 23 points but the Pirates' upset bid of No. 19 Memphis came up short as the Tigers defeated the Pirates 74-70 on Saturday afternoon at FedexForum. RJ Felton added 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Pirates who were looking for their first road win against an AP-ranked team in program history.
What To Watch For
Cam Hayes is 13 points away from reaching 1,000 points in his collegiate career. Hayes is averaging a career-best 9.8 points this season for the Pirates. RJ Felton is only 11 points away from moving into eighth place all-time in career points at ECU.
Scouting the Mean Green
North Texas enters Tuesday as winners of five of their last six after defeating Rice at home, 81-59, on Wednesday night. Atin Wright and Brenen Lorient lead the Mean Green in scoring with 13.1 and 11.7 points per game respectively. UNT features one of the best defenses in the country, allowing just 58.6 points per game (1st in AAC, 6th in NCAA) and averaging 9.4 steals (2nd in AAC).
Series History
North Texas leads the all-time series with East Carolina 4-1, including winning both games last season against the Pirates in UNT's first year as a member of the American. The Pirates fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Mean Green at home, 59-60, before North Texas defeated ECU 84-69 on the road later in the year.Â
On This Date
The Pirates are 8-11 in games played on Jan. 14 with the last contest on this date coming during the 2017-18 season when the Pirates fell at home to Houston, 49-65.Â
Up Next
East Carolina goes on the road for the first of two contests away from Minges as the Pirates visit Wichita State on Saturday, Jan. 18 for a 7:00 p.m. ET tip on ESPN+.
