Pirates Dropped by Temple, 69-52
January 22, 2025 | Women's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball team struggled from the tip in a 69-52 loss to Temple on Wednesday afternoon in Minges Coliseum. The Owls led by as many as 25 as the Pirates struggled mightily on the offensive end.
The Pirates (10-9, 2-5 AAC) were within striking distance for some time but a streak from the 7:00 mark of the second quarter to the 3:00 mark of the third without a made field goal—a 14 minute drought—saw a five-point deficit springboard into the 20s.
No one Owl in particular burned the Pirates too badly, with Tiarra East leading Temple (12-6, 6-1 AAC) in scoring with 19 points and five rebounds while Kaylah Turner Tarriyonna Gary also scored in double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively and five made combined triples.
For ECU, Amiya Joyner was something of a bright spot with 17 points and 11 rebounds, joined by Timia Ware's 14 and Anzhané Hutton's 12 points in double digits. Hutton also contributed nine rebounds.
The Pirates did score 21 points in the fourth quarter, drawing as near as 13, but it was too little, far too late for the hosts.
