Last Time Out
The team saw yet another record fall at Clemson's Orange & Purple Invite last Friday and Saturday in the Palmetto State as Avery Fraley downed an 11-year old heptathlon mark. The Pirates had five other top-10 marks in program history and a big event win from star rookie sprinter Kelly Ufodiama.
Fraley got off to a strong start on Friday, besting the program heptathlon event mark in the 60m with a time of 7.14, previously set at 7.16 by Alexander Mobley-Hollie. He also tied the heptathlon high jump mark at 1.89m (6-2.25) which had been done twice previously. The freshman picked back up with a flash on Saturday, throttling the program heptathlon event record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.45 seconds, bettering Rodney Johnson's 8.60 from 2014. He went on to finish the day with a point total of 4,905, taking down Dylan Spadaccini's 4,895 points from 2014.
Ufodiama was dominant as usual on the weekend, finishing second in the 60m with a time of 7.31 seconds after running 7.27 in the prelim, just missing her own program record. The freshman got back atop the podium with a win in the 200m on Saturday, running a time of 23.21 seconds.
Also on the track, Kailey Elliott ran a 60m hurdles prelim of 8.30 in the semifinal round, just missing out on the final but registering the fifth-best time in program history in the process.
On the distance side, Kaylee McCullough ran the ninth-fastest 5,000m in program history in 17:22.64 as Erin Pope just missed out on the top 10 in 17:24.31, finishing second and third, respectively.
For the men, Dominique Alexander ran a 21.23 200m, finishing eighth on the day but fifth in program history.
The last Pirate individual with a top-10 mark in program history was a great one as Faith Spencer just barely missed the program record in the triple jump with a leap of 13.03m (42-9), missing the record by just 0.02m. She finished third in the meet.
The ECU women closed out the meet in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:42.52, good for third in program history. The team of Elliott, Ufodiama, Emma Hall and Amaya Pleas finished sixth in the event.
