
Pirates Fall on the Road Against UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – East Carolina volleyball came up short on the road Sunday afternoon, falling to UTSA in straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-19) inside the Convocation Center.
Set 1 – UTSA 25, East Carolina 14
The Pirates had a slow start offensively, managing just four kills in the opening frame while the Roadrunners hit .357. Carlia Northcross and Sydney Buchanan each put down early kills, but UTSA pulled away late to take the first set.
Set 2 – UTSA 25, East Carolina 19
ECU bounced back with a stronger second set, jumping out to an early lead behind key swings from Buchanan, Aulie Huff, and Taryn Gilreath. The Pirates kept the frame close through the midpoint, but UTSA used a late run to take control and close it out.
Set 3 – UTSA 25, East Carolina 19
The third set was ECU's best stretch of the afternoon, as the Pirates battled back from an early deficit to tie things up midway through. Violet Hakan led the charge with five kills in the frame, while Huff and Buchanan added key points to keep ECU within reach. UTSA, however, finished strong to seal the win and complete the sweep.
Hakan paced ECU with eight kills, while Buchanan added six kills and five digs. Schuele was able to tally 17 assists and four digs.
The Pirates move to 10-9 overall and 2-6 in conference play, returning home for the next four games, starting with hosting Charlotte on October 22.
