GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina volleyball returns to Minges Coliseum this week for a pair of American Conference matchups, welcoming Charlotte on Wednesday, October 22, followed by South Florida on Friday, October 24. The Pirates (10-9, 2-6 American) are looking to take advantage of their home court and build momentum as the conference schedule continues.
ECU opens the week against Charlotte (15-5, 6-2 American), a team that has quickly made its presence felt in the American. The 49ers enter the matchup near the top of the league standings with a predominantly winning conference record and have been one of the most balanced teams in the American this season. Charlotte is led offensively by Kristen Birmingham, who is averaging over four kills per set (311 total) with a .323 hitting percentage. In contrast, Annika Thompson leads the back row and conference with 384 digs on the year.Â
The Pirates will then close the week by hosting South Florida (11-8, 7-1 American), one of three teams currently tied for first in the conference. In their earlier meeting this season, USF claimed a 3-1 win over the Pirates, with ECU unable to keep up after losing the second set. Florida's combination of offensive depth, with Maria Clara Andrade with 273 kills, and Raegan Richardson with 623 assists.Â
This week's homestand presents a pivotal opportunity for East Carolina to turn the tide in conference play and protect its home court in front of the Minges Coliseum crowd. The first game against Charlotte on October 22 is set for 6:00 p.m. EST. All games will be available on ESPN+.
