
ECU Drops to South Florida at Home

GREENVILLE, N.C. ā East Carolina volleyball dropped a three-set match to South Florida Friday night inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Despite intense defensive moments and flashes of offensive momentum, the Pirates came up short 25-14, 25-22, 25-19.
SET ONE - South Florida 25, East Carolina 14
In the opening frame, ECU struggled to find its rhythm offensively, as South Florida jumped out early and maintained control throughout. The Pirates picked up a late push with contributions from Taryn Gilreath and Aulie Huff, but the Bulls closed out the set 25-14.
SET TWO - South Florida 25, East Carolina 22
East Carolina responded with a much stronger second set, finding momentum behind solid attacking from Violet Hakan, Carlia Northcross and Gilreath. The Pirates held a lead midway through the set and stood within striking distance late, but South Florida converted key points down the stretch to take the frame 25-22.
SET THREE - South Florida 25, East Carolina 19
ECU continued to battle in the third, with Northcross and Kai Bailey helping push the tempo offensively. However, another late surge from the Bulls sealed the match at 25-19. Gilreath paced ECU with three kills, while Northcross added four in an efficient outing.
Elle Jackson anchored the back row with nine digs, and Schuele contributed seven as the Pirates posted substantial serve-receive numbers in the latter two sets. Overall, ECU finished with six team blocks on the night.
The Pirates are back in Minges on Halloween to take on Rice.
