GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina volleyball team is back in Minges Coliseum for the next two matches. The Pirates will take on the Rice Owls on Friday, October 31, with a quick turnaround, then play the Temple Owls on Sunday, November 2.
ECU (11-10, 3-7 American) last week had a split, overcoming Charlotte 3-0. Friday's match against South Florida ended with the Bulls on top, 0-3.
Rice (13-8, 9-1 American) is currently a dominant contender in the conference, with a nine-game win streak and only one conference loss so far. With six of those wins being sweeps, the Owls show they are competitive with the Pirates. The last time ECU saw Rice in action, the Owls held steady in 2024, sweeping and extending the overall series record to 10-2. Preston Taylor leads the Owls on their offense, leading the conference in points (354), averaging 4.85 a set. Taylor has been able to make waves as well in service aces (20) as well as kills (315). On the backline, Gaby Mansfield holds the fort with 288 digs, with Arissa Smith defensively averaging 81 blocks this season.Â
Temple (13-10, 3-7 American) will face Charlotte before heading to Greenville for Sunday's match. The Pirates faced the Owls earlier this year and came back from a deficit in five sets. ECU holds the overall record of 12-9, and plans to keep the seven-game win streak going. Christina Greene helps the Owls offensively, holding 310 points with 272 kills. Olivia Hummels is highlighted defensively, having totaled 221 digs, with Alyssa Finister finishing the job with 72 blocks.Â
The match on October 31 is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET, with Sunday's match at 12:00 p.m. ET. Both games will be available on ESPN+.
