GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina swim and dive team turned in another dominant performance for the second straight weekend as the Pirates defeated Barton and Lynchburg in dual meet competition while Frida Zuniga set the pool record on Saturday afternoon inside Minges Natatorium.
East Carolina defeated Lynchburg 226-63 while besting Barton 228-39. Zuniga set the Minges Pool record in the 3-meter dive with a final score of 382.05 while also winning the 1-meter with a score of 313.05. Romina Hernandez finished second in the 3-meter with a score of 283.28 while also qualifying for the NCAA Zone Championships.
"Had a strong meet," head coach Matthew Jabs said. "Improved our dual meet record and will now focus our attention to our mid-season invitationals. On the swimming side, we are heading to South Carolina for the Gamecock Invitational. It will be our first opportunity to suit up, so we are excited to see just how fast we can go. On the diving side, we head down to Georgia Tech where we will face some really good competition from the ACC and SEC, and I look forward to seeing our divers continue to excel like they have all season."
The Pirates also had impressive performances in the pool as multiple swimmers won events. Alyssa Jackson emerged victorious in the 100 (1:05.39) and 200-breaststroke (2:23.94) while Tanith Mueller won the 200-butterfly (2:06.01), Mikayla Durkin placed first in the 50-free (24.13) and Carlie Clements earned first place in the 100-free (52.31). Abbey Pickel earned third place in the 200-butterfly (2:07.94) and the Pirates won both the 400-medley relay (Heidi Bruining, Clements, Mueller, Durkin) and the 200-free relay (Laura Lopez, Durkin, Clements, Bruining).
