Hutton Career High Not Enough in Pirates' 73-67 Loss to Old Dominion
November 21, 2025 | Women's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball team lost to the Old Dominion Monarchs, 73-67, on Friday in Minges Coliseum. Anzhané Hutton scored a career high 26 points to go with 13 rebounds in the loss.
The game was close in the early going with ODU (4-1) opening up a small lead before the Pirates (2-3) narrowed the margin to one point late in the first quarter, but in the second the game started to turn. The visitors moved in front by 13 points going into the break, thanks in part to a frigid 4-21 shooting from the field for ECU in the quarter.
ECU missed its final 12 shots from the field in the second quarter.
The ODU lead blossomed to 17 in the third quarter despite better shooting and a trio of made threes on just three attempts for the Pirates. Hutton had 12 points in the third quarter alone but the margin was still nine going into the fourth.Â
The game got a bit interesting in the fourth quarter as ECU managed to whittle away at the deficit and got as close as five points with under a minute to play. The team had chances to inch even closer but were unable to knock down a crucial three to truly get back in the game.Â
Hampered by 16 turnovers to just seven assists, the Pirates forced 24 turnovers and were even on the boards, 45-45, with the team currently fifth in the nation in rebounds per game. The hosts also got more attempts from the field than their opponent once again, 75 to 56, and amassed 22 offensive rebounds to just 13 for ODU, a team which entered the game third nationally in the category. But yet, ECU made just 22 shots to 24 for the Monarchs and struggled mightily from in close with more than 40 missed two-point shots in the game.
Before an education day crowd of 5,432—the eighth largest crowd in program history—Hutton was the lone Pirate in double figures scoring, despite all nine players who entered the game notching at least one point.Â
