November 24, 2025 | Women's Swimming and Diving
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's swimming and diving team has concluded an impressive fall that featured a 5-2 record in dual meets, three American Conference Diving and Freshman Diving Athlete of the Week honors and numerous program all-time top 10 performances and personal records set.
"This has been a very successful fall for our team," head coach Matthew Jabs said. "Dual meet wise I'm pleased with where we stand and look forward to our last few meets on the schedule. As for the mid-season invitationals we attended, our results are starting to meet the expectations of our team, fans, and alumni. I was very proud of the way our girls competed at both meets. The effort they put in is starting to show up in our results. Â We have significantly improved our standing within the conference rankings, and we still have room to improve which is exciting. Lastly, I can't thank our coaches enough who have been working very hard with our athletes since August. When we see the results show up like they have, I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them daily." Â
The Pirates' swimmers had multiple top 10 performances at the Gamecock Invitational last week, where the Pirates finished fourth out of nine teams. Carlie Clements set a new program record in the 100-backstroke with a time of 53.18 while also finishing with a time of 1:57.99 (third all-time) in the 200-backstroke. Tanith Mueller continued her strong freshman season, setting a time 2:00.84 in the 200-butterfly (eighth all-time), 4:24.25 (ninth all-time) in the 400-individual medley, 16:53.92 in the 1650-free (eighth all-time)Â and setting a freshman program record in the 100-butterfly (54.09). Elena Dinehart recorded top-10 program times in the pool as well for the 200-backstroke (1:57.83), 100-backstroke (54.87) and 200-individual medley (2:02.93).
ECU was also strong on the diving boards as Frida Zuniga took American Conference Diving Athlete of the Week honors three times while Romina Hernandez and Cecilia Bragantini earned American Conference Freshman Diving Athlete of the Week twice and once respectively. Hernandez's score of 190.05 in the platform at the Georgia Tech Invitational was seventh-best all-time in program history. The Pirates' also had three NCAA Diving Zone Qualifiers in Zuniga, Hernandez and Bragantini while recording 19 CSCAA National Invitational Championship cuts. Zuniga set the Minges Natatorium record in the 3-meter earlier this month with a score of 382.05 points.
