GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina returns home to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Tuesday night for a nationally televised midweek showdown with UAB.
The game is set for a 7 p.m. tip time and will be televised on ESPNU with Derek Jones (play-by-play) and John Williams (analyst) on the call. Pirate fans can also tune in to 107.9 WNCT FM, 94.3 The Game or download the IBX app to hear Daron Vaught call the action.
The Pirates are led in scoring by graduate forward C.J. Walker's 18.2 points per game (4th in AAC) and the six-year veteran adds 6.9 rebounds per game as well. Walker was named the AAC Player of the Week on Monday and is averaging 28 points and 7.7 rebounds on 62 percent shooting from the floor in his last three games. Preseason All-AAC Second Team guard RJ Felton adds 17.6 (5th in AAC) points per night and leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 boards per game while Jordan Riley averages 14.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 2.1 steals per game to round out ECU's top scorers. The trio of Felton, Walker, Riley make up 65 percent of the Pirates' point production.
Last Time Out
C.J. Walker scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year and hit the last-second shot to lift East Carolina past UTSA, 80-79, at the Convocation Center on Saturday evening.
Felton Closing In On Fourth All-Time
RJ Felton enters Tuesday night just two points away from moving to fourth all-time in scoring at East Carolina as the senior currently has 1,577 career points. When Felton reaches 1,600 career points, he will be one of only four players in program history to have scored 1,600 points in their East Carolina career joining Sonny Russell, Lester Lyons and Bobby Hodges. Felton is also one of only seven players to hit 200 threes in his Pirate career and his one of only six ECU players to have 130 or more steals in their Pirate career.
Scouting the Blazers
UAB comes into Tuesday's contest on a three-game winning streak after defeating North Texas, 64-61, on Feb. 3. Yaxel Lendeborg leads the Blazers with 17.6 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game. The forward is one of two players nationally to lead their team in all five statistical categories and was named to the Karl Malone Award Midseason Top 10 list.
Series History
UAB leads the all-time series with East Carolina, 13-6, defeating the Pirates in Birmingham last season, 69-61, in the Blazers first year as a member of the American. Prior to that meeting, the teams had not met since Feb. 1, 2014, as Conference USA members when ECU won, 74-67, in Birmingham. ECU is 1-6 against UAB in Minges, winning the last meeting with the Blazers at home on Feb. 13, 2013, by a score of 74-61.
