Last Time Out
The Pirates took a tumble on the road against league-leading UTSA on Wednesday in San Antonio. Amiya Joyner led the team with 18 points and eight rebounds while Jade Tillman contributed a quality eight points and eight rebounds off the bench, but the team posted only seven assists and struggled finishing, scoring only 15 second chance points and 26 paint points despite grabbing 22 offensive rebounds. Jordyn Jenkins looked the part of a star for UTSA with 23 points and six rebounds.
Scouting Charlotte
The 49ers have struggled mightily with an 8-15 overall record and a 3-9 clip in league play as first-year head coach Tomekia Reed looks to help the team to some momentum down the stretch of the season. The team did find victory last time out with a 14-point margin over Wichita State paced by Alexis Andrews' 27 points on six made threes. On the season, it's been Hayleigh Breland leading the charge with 11.4 points and 5.1 rebounds while Keanna Rembert has contributed 10.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest for a team being outscored by an average of seven points per game.
Series History
The Pirates and 49ers have a nearly 40-game series dating back to 1982 with Charlotte holding a 26-13 edge overall. Despite this, it's been a three-game streak for the Pirates including a 72-65 win in the Queen City earlier this season. Anzhané Hutton had a career day in that contest with 21 points and 12 rebounds while Devin Hagemann poured in 16 points and six assists on the day.Â
Weekly Honors
Joyner and Hagemann swept the AAC's Player and Freshman of the Week honors on Monday. Joyner averaged 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in two wins last week while Hagemann posted 10.0 points and 6.5 assists per game. It is the first sweep for the Pirates since McNeal and Joyner took both recognitions on Feb. 27, 2023.Â
