GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team is back in action on Saturday to host North Texas for a 2 p.m. tip. Tickets are still available for purchase for the game and for those unable to attend, the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Evan Budrovich and Brittany Hoyt on the call.
The game represents a late-season opportunity against on of the top teams in the American with North Texas sitting third in the standings. It's also a chance for the Pirates to move up with the team now just two games back of Tulane in fifth place as the middle of the pack remains close down the stretch yet again.
Last Time Out
The Pirates took a beating to Charlotte last Saturday, leading for nearly 38 minutes of game time and building a margin of as many as 23 points. Amiya Joyner put up a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the game while Devin Hagemann got the team off to a roaring start with 11 points and three made triples in the first quarter. Hagemann would finish the game with 13 points. In total, six Pirates recorded multiple field goals made in a well-rounded blowout victory.
Scouting North Texas
The Mean Green enter the game humming with a 19-7 overall record, an 11-3 clip in league play and a three-game winning streak, just one-game removed from a 40-point romp over Memphis on Feb. 12. On the year, Tommisha Lampkin paces three North Texas players in double-figures with 16.7 points per game. Lampkin also leads the team on the glass with 9.8 rebounds per game, but she gets plenty of help, too, with five players averaging 9.3-or-more points per game on the year.
Series History
The Pirates and Mean Green have only met twice in the all-time series with meetings in 2014 and 2024 split 1-1. What the series lacks in history, it makes up for in thrills with a four-overtime affair coming in Denton last season. The Pirates dropped that contest, 93-91, in what ended up tied for the longest game in program history. Danae McNeal scored 32 points in the game, Tatyana Wyche (19/14) and Amiya Joyner (16/16) posted double-doubles, and Khia Miller posted a high of 19 points in the loss, including a thrilling buzzer beater to force the second OT.
