GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team heads back on the road to take on Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening in Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Frank Forte and Chris Williams on the call.
Last Time Out
The Pirates saw a double-digit lead wilt away in a double-overtime heartbreaker to North Texas in their last outing. The team led by seven in the first overtime and four in the second, but couldn't finish the deal as the Mean Green made clutch plays late for the victory. Individually, Amiya Joyner had a phenomenal day with 19 points and 20 rebounds while Khia Miller put up 20 points of her own with four made threes in the game.
Scouting Florida Atlantic
The Owls have struggled in conference play with a 10-18 overall record and just a 2-13 mark in AAC play. This includes an ongoing five-game skid capped by a narrow defeat at Charlotte on Saturday. For the season, Mya Perry leads the way with 15.3 points per game to pace three Owls in double-figures scoring including Erin Rodgers who, along with her 12.0 points, averages a team-best 5.6 rebounds per game.
Series History
The Pirates took a thumping to the Owls in their first meeting this season, 64-48, in which Perry paced Florida Atlantic with 29 points and Joyner was the lone ECU player to hit double figures scoring with 15. Overall, the Pirates hold a 4-1 edge over the Owls dating back to the first meeting in 2002. This includes one other meeting in the Kim McNeill era, a 78-74 ballgame in Boca Raton last season in which Danae McNeal led the Pirates with 30 points.
Weekly Honors
For her efforts against North Texas, Joyner was named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Honorable Mention list. The junior posted 19 points and 20 rebounds in the game. It was her second career 20-rebound game, making her the third player in program history to record multiple 20-board efforts.
