VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - With her eighth-place finish in the women's 200m final at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, East Carolina's Kelly Ufodiama has become earned First Team All-American honors in her first collegiate season.
Ufodiama, a freshman from Round Rock, Texas, took the blocks in the first of two heats in the 200m final, running a time of 23.19 which was good for fourth in her heat and eighth overall. She is the first ECU athlete to earn First Team All-American recognition since Avion Jones finished seventh in the men's high jump in 2015 and the first woman to earn such honors since Tynita Butts' runner-up finish in the high jump in 2013. She is also the first true freshman All-American since Butts finished seventh in the high jump in 2010.
Indya Mayberry of TCU won the NCAA title with a time of 22.30
Ufodiama had already earned Second Team All-American status after finishing in a tie for 11th in the 60m on Friday. Her efforts at the national meet cap what has been an historic rookie campaign for the sprinter. From breaking the program records at 60m and 200m in her very first meet, to sweeping the events at the American Athletic Conference Championships to earning American Most Valuable Performer, Freshman of the Year and Most Valuable Performance recognitions, Ufodiama has done a little bit of everything in three short months in Purple and Gold.
With the conclusion of this brilliant indoor season, Ufodiama and the Pirates' eyes turn to the outdoor campaign, kicking off March 28-29 on their home track for the Bill Carson Invitational.
