August 17, 2025 | Soccer
GREENVILLE, N.C. -Â The Pirates drew against the NC State Wolfpack, 1-1, on Sunday night at Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium in a back-and-forth slugfest, a Pirates PK and a Wolfpack set piece goal left the teams on even footing before a lively home crowd.
Â
Despite fast-paced action up and down the pitch the first half ended scoreless. The teams combined for 15 first half shots with nine on target but both respective goalkeepers were up to the task.
Â
Three minutes into the second half Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram drew a penalty on a corner from the left side to send Isabella Gutiérrez to the spot. The senior captain stepped up calmly to take the PK and buried it in the bottom left corner. It was Gutiérrez' second goal of the season. She is the only goal scorer yet for the Pirates (0-1-1) as the team continues to hunt its first strike from the run of play.
Â
NC State (0-1-1) responded in the 70th minute with a corner that was driven in by Mana Nakata and found the head of Antonella Mazziotto who directed the ball into the bottom left corner to even the score at one apiece.
Â
With five minutes remaining in regulation Izzy O'Connor played a diagonal ball upfield to Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram who one touched Emma Sheehan into scoring position. After a few touches from Sheehan, she ripped a shot from the right side that clanked off the near post.
Â
All told, the scoresheet reflected the even action on the pitch. NC State had 17 shots to the Pirates 14. The Wolfpack led on corner kicks 7-5. In goal, Olivia Dietrich, made seven saves to Olivia Pratapas' six.
