Scouting Wichita State
The Shockers enter the game with a 3-13 record and riding a four-game skid following a 70-50 loss to Temple on Tuesday evening. Individually, Jaila Harding leads the group with 13.1 points per game with Abby Cater also scoring in double figures. No Wichita State player is averaging north of five rebounds per game and as a group, the team is only mustering 59.6 points per game on the season. That scoring output places them 294th in the NCAA, but where the team truly struggles is in the turnover battle with a whopping 19.2 giveaways per game. That ranks 301st in the nation.
Â
Series History
The Pirates and Shockers have met a dozen times since first matching up as American Conference foes back in 2018. ECU leads the series, 8-4, including the last five in a row. Last season, the teams met only once, a Jan. 29 affair in Minges Coliseum which ended in a 72-62 Pirates victory. Amiya Joyner notched a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds in that game; while returning players Jayla Hearp and Anzhané Hutton both posted 15 points. Hutton also grabbed six boards in the game.

Â
Reclaim
Each season the Pirates choose an important word, meaningful to the team, to put on the back of their practice jerseys. In 2025-26, the team chose the word "Reclaim", signifying the group's goals after a turbulent 2024-25 of returning to their roots as a defensive minded team, getting back to their standards as role models in the community and striving for excellence in the classroom.
