Jenkins Named American Conference Pitcher of the Week
February 23, 2026 | Baseball
GREENVILLE N.C. – Following a masterful performance on the mound against No. 10 North Carolina, East Carolina Baseball's Sean Jenkins has been named the American Conference Pitcher of the Week on February 23. This marks the first weekly conference honor for the Pirates in the 2026 season.  Â
Jenkins was the deciding factor in ECU's 10-3 victory over the Tar Heels at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on February 21. Entering the game in the bottom of the 5th inning with the score tied 3-3, Jenkins completely neutralized one of the nation's top offenses to earn his first win of the season (1-0). This is Jenkins's first conference weekly award, and the earliest an ECU pitcher has garnered this honor since Trey Benton in 2018, with Benton gaining this honor eight years ago on February 23.
A clinical performance by Jenkins provided 4.2 innings of near-perfect relief, allowing only one hit and zero runs. His command was the story of the afternoon, as he issued zero walks while racking up seven strikeouts against 15 batters faced. With seven strikeouts, that marks the most Tar Heel batters to be sat down by an individual so far this season.Â
The Pirates' offense responded to Jenkins' stability by exploding for seven runs in the late innings, including a three-run home run by Grady Lenahan in the 7th and a four-run surge in the 8th. Jenkins closed out the game with professional efficiency, needing only 56 pitches to dismantle the UNC lineup.Â
