GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina senior diver Frida Zuniga has qualified for the NCAA Diving Championships which be held March 18-21 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.
Zuniga qualified for NCAAs for the second straight season at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships earlier this week with qualifying scores in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform dive. She recorded a score of 548.35 in the 1-meter, followed by a score of 628.35 in the 3-meter and a score of 565.05 in the platform dive becoming the first Pirate to qualify for all three NCAA diving events.
"Very happy for Frida and Coach Ryan McIntire," head coach Matthew Jabs said. "The work that has gone into this season and throughout her career cannot be ignored. Frida continues to add to her legacy with her recent qualification for NCAAs in all three diving events which has never been done at ECU. She is the best diver ECU has ever seen."
The five-time American Conference Diver of the Week was named the American Conference's Most Outstanding Diver after becoming the first diver to win all three individual events at an American Conference Championship including recording a championship-record 319.75 points in the platform diving finals last month. Zuniga also reset her records both at East Carolina and in the conference championship in both the 3-meter (378.45) and platform dives at the conference championship.
Zuniga begins competition at the NCAA Diving Championships on Thursday, March 19 with the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive will take place on Friday, March 20. Platform diving will be held on Saturday, March 21. All events at the NCAA Championships will be streamed on ESPN+.
