April 17, 2026 | Track & Field
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The East Carolina track & field program made the most of limited entries at the Wake Forest Invitational, as two Pirates delivered standout performances in the women's 1500-meter run with record-setting and conference-leading marks.
Katrina Ford turned in a breakthrough performance, clocking a personal-best time of 4:26.25 to shave six seconds off her previous mark. The time moves her to No. 2 in the conference this season and No. 4 all-time in East Carolina program history, continuing her steady rise among the program's elite middle-distance runners.
Not to be outdone, Abrielle Schweitzer posted an even faster result in the same event, crossing the line in 4:24.70. The mark represents a seven-second personal record and currently stands as the top time in the conference. Schweitzer's performance also ranks No. 2 in school history, cementing her place among the program's all-time greats.
With both athletes delivering significant personal bests and climbing the record books, East Carolina showcased its strength in the 1500 meters despite a small contingent at the meet.
