PIRATE INVITATIONAL RECAP
The Pirates opened the season in strong form, hosting the Pirate Invitational and winning all three matches to start undefeated. Across 10 sets, they swept Bethune-Cookman and Hampton 3-0, then defeated Radford in four sets. Taryn Gilreath, Aulie Huff and Ellie Pate were named to the All-Tournament Team by opposing coaching staffs. Â
PATE HONORABLE MENTIONÂ
Ellie Pate earned American Conference Honorable Mention on August 31 for her opening-weekend performance. She totaled 45 kills, averaging 4.50 per set, and recorded double-digit kills in each match. She matched her career high with 20 kills on August 29 in the 3-0 sweep against Hampton. Pate also added three service aces, four total blocks and 5.25 points, earning All-Tournament Team honors. Â
ANGELES ALDERETE JOINS 1K CLUB
Outside hitter Angeles Alderete made Pirate history on August 29, 2026, becoming the seventh player in ECU Volleyball program history to reach 1,000 career kills and digs in the Purple and Gold. She was just 10 digs shy of the milestone at the end of the 2024 season. After an injury, she entered the 2025 season 10 digs short and reached the mark just two games into the season. Alderete ranks in the top four in five team categories, showing how valuable her talents are for the Pirates. During opening weekend, she also recorded her 40th career double-double against Radford (8/30) with 10 kills and 15 digs. Alderete joins Cinta Claro (1997-00), Bri Wood (2017-21), Melanie Richards (1992-95), Carrie Brne (1993-95), Stephanie Turner (2006-09) and Ashton Mares (2014-17) in the Pirates' 1K Club. Â
ABOUT APP. STATE
Appalachian State traveled to Charlotte for opening weekend and finished 2-1. Two of their three matches went five sets, including their loss to North Carolina A&T, and they defeated host Charlotte on Saturday. In their finale against Bryant, they earned a sweep.
