CLEMSON, S.C. - East Carolina volleyball battled UNC Greensboro to five sets Sunday afternoon at Jervey Gymnasium before falling, 3-2.

Ellie Pate led the Pirates offensively with a match-high 25 kills on 62 attacks, finishing with a .290 hitting percentage.

Nina Edwards performed with 11 kills and six block assists, while Aulie Huff contributed six kills and a team-high four blocks. Brook Watkins directed the ECU offense with 43 assists.

SET ONE: UNCG 21, EAST CAROLINA 25
ECU hit .257 as a team in the opening frame and used a late surge to pull away from the Spartans. Pate recorded six kills in the set, while Edwards added five.

SET TWO: UNCG 25, EAST CAROLINA 17
UNC Greensboro took the second set, as ECU totaled a .147 hitting percentage and UNCG hit .444. The Spartans also had 8.0 team blocks compared to ECU's 1.0.

SET THREE: UNCG 21, EAST CAROLINA 25
ECU regained the advantage with a 25-21 victory in the third. The Pirates hit .269 and received a strong offensive effort from Pate, who recorded seven kills in the frame.

SET FOUR: UNCG 25, EAST CAROLINA 21
The Spartans answered by taking the fourth set and forcing a decisive fifth frame. Pate totaled five of the Pirates' 11 kills, and ECU had 3.0 team blocks, but UNCG ultimately took the set.

SET FIVE: UNCG 15, EAST CAROLINA 10
ECU battled throughout the final set, but UNC Greensboro scored the final points to secure the 15-10 victory and claim the match.

As a team, ECU finished with 56 kills, 53 assists, eight service aces and 22 total blocks. The Pirates also posted a .207 hitting percentage while holding UNC Greensboro to a .266 mark.

ECU will have its second away tournament over the next weekend in Winston-Salem, hosted by Wake Forest. The Pirates will open their tournament play against the hosts on September 11 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
