Varinia Soler, a three-year letterwinner who helped play a key role in East Carolina[apos]s success that produced 51 wins from 2007 to 2009, will join Tom Morris[apos] staff this spring as a student assistant while completing requirements for her undergraduate degree.
A native of Barcelona, Spain, Soler concluded a Lady Pirate career that began in the fall of 2006 with a total of 46 singles wins - an average of over 15 per season. She also played at the top of ECU[apos]s doubles lineup and was a part of 44 combined victories as a sophomore, junior and senior.
During Soler[apos]s playing tenure under Morris, her on-the-court success and leadership enabled the Lady Pirates to post the top two single-season win totals in the program[apos]s 34-year existence with a 19-victory campaign in 2007 and a 17-triumph spring in 2008.
A marketing major with a minor in fashion merchandising, Soler is scheduled to earn her bachelor[apos]s degree later this year.
