Pete Buscaino enters his fifth year at ECU and third as the Director of Baseball Operations, a poÂsition he officially started on July 1, 2014.
Â
Buscaino, who spent two seasons as the volunteer coach, will handle a variety of administrative duties, including team travel, game-day organiÂzation, special events coordination and community outreach efforts with the Pirate program.
Â
As ECU’s Volunteer Assistant Coach, a position he accepted on Jan. 11, 2016, Buscaino worked directly with the outfielders. During his two-year stint, he helped mentor 2016 Freshman All-America and First-Team All-American Conference selection Dwanya Williams-Sutton, who led the league in batting average (.360) and on-base percentage (.455), while standing second in slugging (.551).
Â
As a senior, Garrett Brooks earned his second-straight all-regional team selection after batting .500 with two doubles, two RBI and eight putouts in the 2016 Charlottesville Regional. Fellow classmate Parker Lamm was named the 2016 Williams Jungle Offensive MVP after batting .287 in the leadoff position with 28 RBI and 28 runs scored. Defensively, he registered 94 putouts, two assists and did not commit an error in 96 chances.
Â
Prior to his appointment at ECU, Buscaino spent four years at UCF where he served as a student manager for the Knights baseball team. During his tenure, he was responsible for organization of all equipment, field prepaÂration at Jay Bergman Field, and statistical analysis for coaching staff, while also organizing community outreach events.
Â
During the summers, Buscaino could be found traveling the country volÂunteering at some of the nation’s top baseball camps and showcases inÂcluding stops at Clemson, Mississippi State, UCF and Perfect Game ShowÂcase. In 2013 he served as the assistant coach for the New Market Rebels in the Valley Baseball League working with defense and coaching first base.
Â
Buscaino’s diverse background is not limited just to the college ranks, as he spent time working with the Tampa Bay Rays (role player/2010-11) and the Baltimore Orioles (clubhouse attendant/2011-12).
Â
A native of Clearwater, Fla., Buscaino received his undergraduate degree in interdisciplinary studies from UCF in 2014. He is married to the former Keegan Felder (December 2017) and currently resides in Greenville, N.C.
