He wore multiple hats during a two-year stay at Limestone (S.C.) College in 2013 and 2014, initially joining the Saints' staff as the first-ever defensive line coach in school history as the program was launched to compete at the NCAA Division II level. In addition to tutoring a position group on the defensive side of the ball, Swaba also served as Limestone's equipment manager and pro liaison.
Swaba began his coaching career in 2011 as a defensive assistant coach at Porter Ridge (N.C.) High School before moving on to a graduate assistant's role at Wingate - the first of two tenures he had with the Bulldogs.
He was a three-year letterman at Appalachian State from 2008 until 2010, primarily playing the guard and tackle position on the Mountaineers' offensive line. Swaba earned a bachelor's degree in history from ASU in 2011.
