In 2007-2008, Pretre helped coach Shayna Longacre to the NCAA Women[apos]s Championships, where she earned honorable mention All-America honors with a 15th-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In 2008, Pretre also played a key role in recruiting one of the best classes ever at Rutgers which was voted 24th by collegeswimming.com.
Prior to his tenure at Rutgers, Pretre served as an assistant coach at Princeton University during the 2005-06 season under coach Rob Orr. With Pretre coaching the breaststroke and butterfly groups, the Tigers won the EISL Championships.
He began his coaching career as the head coach of the Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA Swim Team. During his seven-year tenure he rebuilt their National team from four athletes to 20 in a span of four years. Pretre produced YMCA National Champions in the 100-meter breaststroke (2003, 2004), as well as several U.S Open and Junior National Qualifiers.
A 1997 graduate of West Virginia University and former Mountaineer letterman, Pretre also holds a master[apos]s degree from WVU in special education. He resides in Winterville with his wife Collette and their newborn son Brayden.
