Erica Bell, a former East Carolina track and field standout, returned to her alma mater as a volunteer assistant coach in the fall of 2013. Bell will work primarily with the sprinters and hurdlers.
Bell was a two-year letter winner at ECU where she currently holds the pentathlon record in the high jump with a mark of 1.51m (4-11.50). Additionally, she ranks in the ECU Record Book Top 10 in the women[apos]s outdoor triple jump (11.50m, 37-08.75) as well as in the pentathlon (2,985 points). In her senior year, Bell was part of the shuttle hurdle relay team that set the school record with a time of 1:00.60.
While an undergraduate student at ECU, Bell excelled in the classroom as she earned the Conference USA Commissioner[apos]s Academic Medal every year during her career at East Carolina. She also was named to the league[apos]s Commissioner[apos]s Honor Roll for three seasons of her collegiate career and was a three-time ECU Dean[apos]s List selection as well as a three-time ECU Chancellor[apos]s List member. Additionally, Bell was selected to the 2013 Potash All-Academic Team for maintaining the highest GPA on the women[apos]s track and field team, and was a recipient of the C-USA Winter Spirit of Service Award in 2012 for her community service, academics, and athletic efforts.
Prior to her time at East Carolina, Bell was a three-year letterwinner at Haddon Heights High School (N.J.) in indoor and outdoor track and field as well as a two-year letterwinner in cross country.
Bell graduated from East Carolina in May 2013 with a Bachelor[apos]s Degree in exercise physiology and is currently enrolled in ECU[apos]s Ph.D., program in bioenergetics and exercise science with a concentration in biomechanics.
