Jason Harris was named East Carolina Women's Basketball Assistant Coach on June 12, 2024.
Â
Harris joined East Carolina after a stint with the Atlantic Collegiate Academy. In his first year with ACA, the team went 21-2, including two wins each against top-10 teams in the state of North Carolina and South Carolina.
Prior to his stop as the head coach of ACA, Harris served for two seasons as an assistant coach at Austin Peay. While there, Harris helped guide Elijah Hutcherson-Everett to an All-Conference selection and helped the Governors to the top recruiting class in the OVC.
Â
Prior to Austin Peay, Harris spent three seasons as part of the North Carolina Central women’s basketball coaching staff, also serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator. With Harris on staff, the Eagles set the program record for single season wins both overall and in conference play. Harris played a pivotal part of the development of All-MEAC players Paulina Afriye, Rodneysha Martin and Kieche White, he also successfully recruited 2021 MEAC Defensive Player of the Year Anissa Rivera.
Â
Before coming to the college ranks, Harris was a longtime stalwart at the prep level, most recently at Bishop Ireton (Virginia) High School. During his four-season stint, Harris took the Cardinals to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference playoffs for the first time and sent multiple players on to collegiate programs.
Â
Prior to his time at Bishop Ireton, Harris spent time at Westminster School, Montverde Academy and Montrose Christian Academy. At Montverde, he served as national and international recruiting coordinator, developing deep ties across the globe as the team went 50-8 during his time and ranked 23rd in USA Today's national High School poll. Harris was instrumental in the perimeter skill development of LD Williams (Wake Forest), Luc Mbah A Moute (UCLA and the LA Clippers) and Luis Colon (Kansas State). At Montrose, he worked alongside current Washington Huskies Associate assistant coach David Adkins with players such as Linas Kleiza (Missouri/Denver Nuggets), Uche Echefu (Florida State), Tunji Sorye (UVA), Churchill Odia (Oregon) on a team that also earned a national prep ranking.
Â
In 2006, Harris established Premier Sports Performance Academy with his father, Coach Mike Harris. Jason served as the Chief Executive Officer and head coach for the under-17 elite team for over a decade. During this time, Harris supported over 100 student-athletes who would go on to earn NCAA scholarships including Ashely Owusu (WNBA/Israel), Jennie Simms (WNBA/Israel), Lindsey Abed (Hartford/Spain), Danielle Burns (Fordham), Kristine Mial (ECU) and Akunna Konkwo (Boston College).
Â
Harris graduated from Fordham University in 2001 with a degree in sociology. He was a four-year letter winner and two-year captain for the Rams, where he was named one of Dick Vitale's Top-Five Long Distance Shooters in the nation in 2000, A 2001 A-10 All-Defensive Team honoree and four-time A-10 Player of the week. He holds Fordham’s record for Three pointers in a career (274), and Game (10), as well as steals in a game (9). After Fordham, Harris played professionally in France following his career with the Rams. In 2023, Harris was inducted into the Fordham Athletics Hall of Fame.
