Arturo Rivera joined the East Carolina volleyball program as an assistant coach in July of 2020.

In his first year on staff, Rivera helped the Pirates average an American Athletic Conference third-best 17.96 digs per set. He also had a hand in Bri Wood’s selection to the All-AAC First Team. Additionally, he assisted in guiding ECU to its first victory over in-state opponent North Carolina since 1978 as East Carolina swept UNC inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

Before his arrival in Greenville, Rivera spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Atlantic Coast Conference member Wake Forest. He helped the Demon Deacons to 14 overall victories and a 7-0 record to start the 2019 campaign. Wake Forest defeated Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech and North Carolina in ACC play while winning three of its last four regular season matches.

Prior to his time in Winston-Salem, Rivera was an assistant coach at Harvard from 2013-15. With Rivera on the sidelines, the Crimson won back-to-back Ivy League championships and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. The team combined for a 48-25 record in Rivera's time there.Â

During the 2012 season, Rivera was a volunteer assistant at North Carolina as the Tar Heels went 26-6 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Rivera was responsible for video breakdown and coding while also assisting with scouting and on-court coaching of the squad's liberos and middles.Â

In addition to working at Harvard and North Carolina, Rivera also put in stints at UNLV and the University of Central Florida where he assisted with on-court coaching, scouting, recruiting and video work. He began his collegiate coaching career as an undergraduate at UCF, assisting with the varsity program while also serving as beach program's head coach.Â

On the international scale, Rivera was the head coach of Triade-VCT, a professional team playing in Tilburg, Netherlands, in 2019-10. With Triade, he was responsible for game planning, scouting, player development, practice plans and team travel.Â

Before beginning his coaching career, Rivera played more than 12 years at the international, collegiate and club levels. He helped STV Tilburg to the B-League championship in the Netherlands following a first-place performance at the 2009 USA Open Volleyball Championships. Rivera also trained in Puerto Rico with Ponce Leones of the Superior League. He played collegiately at Ball State University from 2004-05 and then later for UCF's club team from 2005-08.Â

A native of Orlando, Fla., Rivera graduated from UCF in 2008 with an interdisciplinary degree in health and education, and a minor in Spanish.
