Lady Pirates To Host Wolfpack Tonight at Minges

Tonight, the East Carolina Lady Pirates will play host to the Wolfpack of North Carolina
State. This will be the 35th all-time meeting between the two schools. State leads the series
28-6. Tip-off is slated for a 7 p.m. start at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

basketball games. Dan Eberhard is in his third
season calling the action for the Pirates, and
he will be joined again this year by color man
Chris Giles.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
Last season's squad was perhaps the
youngest in the history of the women's
basketball program. With seven freshman and
no seniors, the average age of the group was
18.8 and the average height was 5-9.
This season, with more experience and the
addition of new players, the average age of
the team is 19.5 years, but the average height
remains at 5-9.
THE HONEYMOON IS OVER
The 2001-02 season was East Carolina's
first year of competition as a member of
Conference USA. The Pirates went 3-11 in
their inaugural season as a league member.
This season, the Pirates again have 14
conference games on the slate. League play
begins on January 10 at Charlotte.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Two Lady Pirates have posted double-doubles
this season.
Courtney Willis hit her first double-double
on Monday November 25 against South
Carolina State. She had 29 points and pulled
down 11 boards to be the first Lady Pirate to
record a double-double in the 2002-03 season.
Jennifer Jackson added her name to the list
on Saturday, November 29 against Howard.
She had 11 points and 13 boards in the win
over the Lady Bison.
"TALI" ING UP THE THREES
Tali Robich is third on the East Carolina
career three-point basket list with 122. It will
take the Rockingham, N.C. native 15 more
three-pointers to move up to the second place
spot on the career list.
Her 47 treys during the 2000-01 season was
good enough for the fourth best single-season
mark in school history.
For the 2001-02 campaign, Robich landed
37 of 116 attempted three point shots, good
enough for the ninth best single season mark
in school history.
This season, Robich leads the team with 10
three-point buckets on the year.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
North Carolina State started seven different
players last season, six of which will returned
to the Wolfpack lineup for the 2002-03
campaign.
Last year State finished the season at 14-
15, with a 7-9 record in the ACC, good
enough for sixth place.
The Wolfpack are 1-3 on the year, the only
win coming against Iowa by three points in
overtime on Saturday, November 29. The
three losses came at the hands of UConn,
Santa Barbara and Loyola Marymount.
N.C. State is led in scoring by Kaayla
Chones, averaging 17.8 points per game. She
is followed by Terah James with and average
of 8.3 points.
Adeola Olandrehaju leads the team in
rebounds, averaging 8.0 boards per match-up.
The Wolfpack is coached by Kay Yow, in
her 28th season at North Carolina State.
THE N.C. STATE SERIES
N.C. State and East Carolina have faced
one another 34 times previously. State owns
the series 6-28.
The first time the two teams competed was
on January 24, 1972, and East Carolina came
away with the 84-37 win. The last time the
two met up was on December 21, 2000 and
the Lady Pirates fell by a score of 69-47.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
Courtney Willis leads the Pirates in
scoring this season, averaging 15.5 points per
game. Tali Robich (13.5) and Jennifer
Jackson (10.0) are close behind, also averaging
double numbers.
The Lady Pirates are 1-3 this season,
having fallen to No. 1 Duke 108-46, South
Carolina State , and UNCG. The Pirates' lone
win came at the hands of Howard 76-66.
The Pirates are shooting 38.8 percent from
the field this season, and 59.5 percent from
the free throw line.
