Darryl Lawhorn Named Second Team All-America

GREENVILLE, N.C. ? One day after being named first team Freshman All-America by Baseball America, East Carolina first baseman/outfielder Darryl Lawhorn was named second team All-America by the publication on Wednesday. Lawhorn becomes the 11th player in school history to be decorated with All-America honors.
Lawhorn, who set multiple ECU freshmen and single season records, has received numerous awards this postseason. In addition to his Baseball America accolades, Lawhorn has been named co-National Freshman of the Year by Collegiate Baseball, the first player in school history to earn such recognition.
He was also a first team All-Conference USA performer and the C-USA Freshman of the Year. Lawhorn also won the Most Valuable Player award at the 2002 Conference USA Tournament and received all-regional honors at the NCAA Clemson Regional.
Lawhorn finished the season with the fifth highest single-season batting average in school history (.416) and third most home runs (19).
