Pirate Golfers Earn Second Place Finish At Mid Pines
September 10, 2002 | Men's Golf
The Pirates combined for a final score of 866 (286-292-288), two over par, and 13 strokes off the lead of the winner, the University of California, which finished with a score of 853 (282-287-284).
East Carolina's Jonathan Hill, who led all golfers after round one with a score of 67 and was tied for fifth after round two, completed the tournament with a third place finish with a score of 210 (67-75-68), six under par. Jason Harris also moved up from his 10th place position after round two. He completed the course at even par (71-73-72-216) and a ninth place finish.
"I am real proud of our performance in this tournament," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "This is a tournament in which we finished 11th last year. So, it's nice to start the season off with a good outing. However, this is just a second place finish in a string of second place finishes going back to last season, and we are still looking for a first place win. We didn't play with much consistency and that's something we will have to improve upon."
The men will be in action again next week when they travel to Florence, S.C., to participate in the Carolina First Intercollegiate. The tournament, which is being held September 23-24, will be held at the Carolina Country Club and is being sponsored by Francis Marion University.
