
Men and Women's Tennis Host East Carolina Fall Invitational

The round-robin play held at the ECU Tennis Complex and the Greenville Parks and Recreation facilities is a two day event featuring both singles and doubles matches amongst the four participating schools.
The Lady Pirates were victorious in all singles matches on Friday, defeating High Point and Lees-McRae opponents. Senior Lyndall Jordan defeated High Point's Simona Foltyn by a score of 7-5, 6-4 and Deniz Emre of Lees-McRae by a 6-2, 6-3 count. Both of Jordan's victories came in the No.1 position for the Lady Pirates.
Sophomore Raluca Baicu was vicorious in her match against High Point's Annika Meyerson by a score of 6-2, 6-2 in the No.2 position and junior Paulina Sierpinski won both of her matches in the No. 3 position. Newcomer Kirsten Buchanan dominated the No.4 position, only allowing her opponents to score one point against her all day. Senior Emily Kohl playing in the No. 5 position and sophomore Cristina Meilicke in the No. 6 spot defeated their opponents today in singles action.
On the men's side, East Carolina won all six matches versus High Point and split on the day with Lees-McRae. The men were led by a duo of sophomores and a freshman, Nick Rose. Playing in the No. 3 position, sophomore Paulo Baumer defeated High Point's Mike Tolman by a score of 6-0, 6-3 and won by a count of 7-5, 6-1 against Shane Horan of Lees-McRae. In the No.4 spot sophomore Felipe Fonseca won both of his matches and newcomer Rose defeated both of his opponents in the No. 5 position. Junior Charl Meyer (No.1), senior Brad Sullivan (No.2) and sophomore Bryce Snyder (No.6) won their matches against their High Point opponents.
Doubles play will continue Friday night and Saturday morning for all four schools participating. Play will resume Saturday morning at 8 a.m. at the ECU Tennis Complex.
