
ECU Swim Teams Dominates UMBC

BALTIMORE -- East Carolina University's swim teams defeated UMBC today in their second-to-last meet of the regular season. The Lady Pirates beat the Retrievers, 139-99, and the man passed them, 134.5-106.5.
"This was a great meet for us," Head Coach Rick Kobe said after today's win. "The guys came back to win the last four events, cementing the victory. The girls dominated them. We are looking forward to our last dual meet next week. It was a great win on the road."
The men (7-2) pulled through a close meet, winning eight out of the 13 events. The Pirates took four spots in the 50 yard free as Tyler Devinney (21.80) was second, Kelly Hendrick (21.98) finished in third, Justin Brinkley (22.36) in fourth, and Stephen Parsons (22.58) in fifth place.
In the 100 free, Casey Cronin took first place (47.28), Matt Walker tied for second (47.66), Daniel Walters earned fourth place (48.89) and Jonathan Keefe placed fifth (49.06). Walker took second in the 200 free (1:42.50) followed by Cliff Skudin in third place (1:45.81).
Dean Cheek took first in the 500 free (4:39.89) and Skudin placed fourth (4:50.09). Cheek also won the 100 free (9:38.17).
Charles earned third place in the 200 back (1:56.33).
Cronin took first place in the 200 breast (2:07.65) and Kenny Flory took third place (2:13.56).
Andrew Dragunas placed second in the 200 fly (1:54.09) followed by Bumgarner in third place (1:55.13).
Cronin took first place in the 200 IM (1:53.95).
Diver Robbie Derr earned first place on the one meter (239.63) and three-meter board (303.08). Greg Detwiler took second place on the one meter (215.76) and three meter (286.95).
The women (7-2) won nine out of 13 events for the Lady Pirates.
Adrienne Williams took first in the 50 yard free (24.72), followed by Martha Snead in second (25.11), Lindsay Holman in third (25.30) and Sarah Karpowicz in fourth (25.31).
In the 100 free, Martha Snead earned first (54.02), Courtney Felker took second (54.34), Sarah Hunt earned third (54.67) and Adrienne Williams took fourth (54.69).
Holly Williams took first in the 200 free (1:56.00).
Jackie Royce earned first in the 500 yard free (5:11.61) and Courtney Kos took second (5:12.51). Royce placed second in the 100 free (10:39.37).
In the 200 yard back Holly Williams took second (2:06.16).
Kelly Shinton took second in the 200-yard breast (2:24.18) followed by Lindgren in third (2:26.76).
Diane Parker earned first place in the 200 fly (2:04.57) and in the 200 IM (2:06.79).
Fuller took second in the 200 IM (2:09.68).
In diving, Carrie Wright earned first on both the one-meter board (246.98) and the three meter (255.38). Lucy Hicks took second on the one-meter board (255.08) and on the three meter (196.50).
