Gold, Purple Share Titles at Purple & Gold Meet
October 02, 2003 | Men's Swimming and Diving
"We were very pleased with the outcome. It's the earliest that we've ever had the Purple and Gold meet. We have a meet in two weeks and had to really push up the intersquad meet, but we're very happy with where we are. We still have a long way to go, but we have a lot of time to get there," ECU head coach Rick Kobe said.
Freshman Kate Gordon started off her collegiate career with an impressive showing. Gordon won the 200 Free with a 1:56.31 as well as the 200 Fly with a 2:07.04. Sara Hunt won the 100 Free with :54.77 to pace the Purple team. Hunt finished second in the 200 Free with a 1:58.16. Diane Parker won the 200 IM for the purple team with a 2:12.04.
On the men's side, junior Gavin Stark paced the purple team placing second in the 200 Free with a 1:44.36 and winning the 100 Free with a time of :47.64. Casey Cronin led the gold team after taking two events. Cronin put up a time of 1:43.93 to win the 200 Free and followed that up with a 2:09.31 to win the breaststroke.
ECU opens its regular season Oct. 13 when the Pirates host Louisville at 11 a.m.
