October 31, 2003 | Volleyball
Junior outside hitter Sara Vick recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 kills and 15 digs to lead the Pirates. Pam Ferris added nine kills while sophomore libero Johanna Bertini added nine digs.
As a team, the Green Wave hit .310 with 52 kills and just 16 errors in 116 swings while holding the Pirates to a .033 mark (29-25-121). Tulane's defense posted seven team blocks, including five block assists by senior middle blocker Kim Swafford. The Pirate offense committed 18 unforced attack errors.
Tulane middle blocker Deva Fowler had 11 kills and Swafford added 10 kills. Kenon also led the Green Wave defense with 15 digs, followed by Daly with 12 and junior outside hitter Lindsey Norman with 10.
Tulane took an 8-2 lead, but the Pirates fired right back and cut the lead to one at 11-10. That would be as close as ECU would get as Tulane went on to a 30-21 game-one win.
East Carolina took an early 4-2 lead in game two, but Tulane tied the game two points later and claimed a 6-5 lead they would not relinquish en route to a 30-23 victory.
After taking a two-games-to-none lead, the Green Wave defeated the Pirates in the third stanza, limiting East Carolina to just four kills in the contest and a -.081 attack percentage. Tulane scored the first four points of game three, and held a four-point lead at 8-4. From there, the Green Wave went on a 22-9 run to end the match via the 30-13 win.
ECU continues its road trip when the Pirates travel to Southern Miss Saturday night. Match time has been moved to 8:30 p.m. (EST).
