10/05/2003
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- East Carolina's Charl Meyer and Mark Gellard posted a first-round doubles victory but bowed out in the second round on Saturday at the 2003 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships, being held in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The pair were the only Pirate representatives in the draw, which included 256 singles players and 128 doubles teams in the prequalifying tournament.
Meyer, a senior, and Gellard, a freshman, won their first-round match against Kirk Jackson and Trevor Short of Middle Tennessee, 8-5.
In the second round, however, they fell to Arkansas' Rohan Gajjar and Imran Ismail, 8-2.
Earlier in the tournament on Friday, Meyer went 1-1 in the singles draw while Gellard lost in the first round.
The entire ECU men's tennis team returns to action for its final event of the fall season on Oct. 17-19 when the Pirates take part in the Old Dominion Tournament.
